Back Bay Mission »
Back Bay Mission has a commitment to be faithfully responsive to the emerging and critical needs of God's people, ever seeking a day of greater justice and peace. We currently have seven service programs: The Center for Community Ministry: Develops faith-based leadership in order to more fully equip the Church for creative service and pro-active presence in communities. Community Development and Social Change: Organizes new community services to meet emerging needs and social justice public advocacy work. Mission Education: Assists United Church of Christ members and others in analysis of social justice issues and in clarifying the role of faithful persons in society. Workcamping: New work teams arrive weekly and are expected to tackle more difficult projects requiring more expertise than ever. Emergency Assistance: Direct services to the poor and struggling, including financial assistance (for rent/mortgage/utility relief, prescription drugs, transportation), information/referral services, and case management. Home at Last (HAL): Provides permanent housing and supportive services to homeless, disabled persons. Affordable Housing: A collaborative effort to resolve the shortage of housing for low income persons in the area.

Profile
Back Bay Mission was founded in 1922 as an outreach effort of the First Evangelical Church of Biloxi (later United Church of Christ), whose members responded with compassion and service to the needs of poor “fisher folk” living in deplorable conditions along the Back Bay of Biloxi, Mississippi. Since then, Back Bay Mission has continually grown its services and ministries, always keeping the impoverished and marginalized at the center of its concern. Although there were no longer any UCC congregations in Biloxi or in the state of Mississippi by the early 1970s, Back Bay Mission remained to offer a witness of the United Church of Christ.
