Profile

Oxfam America is a nonprofit, international agency that funds long-term development and disaster relief projects in 28 countries throughout Africa, Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean. Our grants promote self-reliance by local communities that strive to increase food production, encourage local institution building, and foster participatory development. Oxfam America speaks out about public policies that affect our partners around the world. We also produce and distribute educational materials on issues of hunger and development.

We’ve spent three decades working to change the world one village at a time. Through enduring partnerships with local organizations, we have helped millions of people to not only survive the devastation of wars, famines, and natural disasters, but to rebuild their lives. We trust local people to develop the best answers to local problems.

Oxfam America believes that:

All people have the right to pursue and shape the course of their own lives.

Respect for diversity of race, gender, religion, and ethnicity is essential to building just societies and vibrant communities.

Poverty is a consequence of the systemic exclusion of distinct social groups from the rights, resources, and opportunities to achieve their fullest potential.

Each individual can play a role in a global movement for social change.

Successful partnerships are defined by mutual respect and a willingness to be innovative, share risks, and assume long-term relationships.
