Steps People Before Ports Campaign
Help stop the diversion of $600 million away from housing recovery needs
On September 7, Governor Haley Barbour proposed a plan to divert $600 million of housing recovery funds to pump into the expansion of the State Port at Gulfport. This is the latest act in a state recovery
characterized by disregard for the needs of its most vulnerable citizens.
Residents, community leaders, and organizations in Mississippi are mobilizing against this proposal during the public comment period ending September 24th.
Download the People Before Ports campaign kit by clicking the link below. Included in this kit is a detailed fact sheet, followed by 2 direct action mechanisms: a comment letter that allows individuals to submit public comment, and a petition that may be circulated for signatures.
If you circulate the petition and want to include it in public comment, please deliver it to the MCJ offices no later than 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 24.
Fax the completed petition to 228-435-7285, or deliver to Mississippi Center for Justice, 974 Division Street, Biloxi, MS 39530
