On May 24th, 2022 our group of community leaders gathered together again to learn about building a stronger, safer, and more resilient East Biloxi community one building at a time. Community leaders and members of the STEPS Coalition, East Biloxi Community Collaborative (EBCC), the NAACP Biloxi Branch, the Program for Local Adaptation to Climate Effects: Sea Level Rise (PLACE: SLR), the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio (GCCDS) convened once again to place their focus on redeveloping East Biloxi. This time, we focused on learning about and understanding flood and wind risk and how to reduce risk. We discussed how we as a community and as individuals can work to reduce the risk and impact of flood risk, how we can reduce the risk of damage by building fortified homes and buildings, and how flood insurance influences affected individuals.
