On April 5th, the STEPS Coalition, East Biloxi Community Collaborative (EBCC), the NAACP Biloxi Branch, the Program for Local Adaptation to Climate Effects: Sea Level Rise (PLACE: SLR), the Gulf Coast Community Design Studio (GCCDS), and the East Biloxi Community leaders gathered again at the USM's Long Beach campus for our second training of the four-part series focusing on the redevelopment and revitalization of East Biloxi. This training focused on teaching community leaders about sea-level rise, changes in the climate and rainfall, how these changes affect residents of East Biloxi, especially those in higher areas of flood risk, and what we can plan together to protect our communities against these risks in the future. Community leaders also learned how we can work together to build long-lasting and resilient structures that will withstand storm surges and wind damage resulting from future climate events.
