Unity and Heritage

The weekend of June 20th, 2020 looks to be a busy one as NGO's and municipalities on the Mississippi Gulf Coast come together in unity and solidarity in the City of Biloxi, Mississippi to demand justice (social, economic, criminal, climate, etc.) and equal rights for African Americans in particular and all Americans including the poor and disenfranchised regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality, and to celebrate the region's strong civil rights history, the cornerstone of which was the Wade-In movement of the 1950's and 1960's that was led by Dr. Gilbert R. Mason and the NAACP Biloxi Branch.

This weekend will see the region hosting a Unity March & Prayer Service that will begin at 9:00 am on the Biloxi Town Green (participants will begin gathering at 8:00 am), a JuneTeenth Celebration that will start at 11:00 am at John Henry Beck Park in East Biloxi, and the Youth-Led 2020 Wade-In Commemoration that will start at 5:30 pm on Beach Boulevard adjacent to the Biloxi Visitor's Center.

Check out the Steps Coalition website for additional details regarding each event. We hope to see you there this coming Saturday.
